Opportunities

Ongoing Volunteers

Mentor:

Mentors are spiritually mature men or women who are answering God’s call to love, accept, encourage, forgive, and serve. Mentorship provides an opportunity for the formerly incarcerated to build a Christ-centered relationship that will contribute to their spiritual growth and maturity. Mentors strive for consistency, committing themselves to a meaningful friendship with their mentee. Time commitment is 1-2 hours per week.

Bible Study Facilitator:

Weekly Bible studies are an important part of our program structure. Bible studies are held twice a week, and residents are required to attend both meetings each week. Facilitators work together with Texas Reach Out staff to choose and curriculum/format for the meetings they facilitate. The goal is not to simply teach/preach to the residents but to encourage conversation and participation among the participants.

Life Skills Class Teacher:

Qualified volunteers can lead various types of classes for our residents. These classes teach our residents important skills such as anger management, problem solving, relapse prevention, money management, and social skills.

Application Review Committee:

Twice a month, our Application Review Committee reviews applications to determine the eligibility of applicants for our program. These volunteers read testimonies of how God is working in the prison system and help provide an opportunity for participants to get a fresh start. Time commitment is 1.5-2 hours every two weeks.

Office Help:

Consists of special projects such as mass mailings or data entry, scanning and/or shredding documents, and other general office work.

Special Event Volunteers

Workdays:

Workdays consist of group maintenance projects at the Texas Reach Out homes. Projects range from landscaping, painting, renovating, and clearing out and organizing the clothing closets. Workdays are a great way to volunteer with your church, small group, school, or business!

Event Volunteers:

When Texas Reach Out hosts events such as Christmas parties or fundraisers, volunteers are needed to help organize the day-of activities.

Professional Volunteers

Pro Bono Services:

Volunteers who hold licenses, registration, or certification and are interested in providing pro bono services may contact us for more information. Credentials must be current if you will be providing that professional skill as a volunteer.

Board Member:

Texas Reach Out has an active and enthusiastic board of men and women committed to the mission of the organization. If you or someone you know are interested in serving as a board member, fill out the application and mark “board member” under interests. Accounting/finance, social work/counseling, legal, marketing/fundraising, or criminal justice experience would be a tremendous asset to our organization.
